Die Century 430 mit 3.000 PS und die
größer ausgelegte Century 630 waren die ersten
Lokomotiven, die American Locomotive Company mit
kleineren und leichterzu unterhaltenden AC Generatoren
ausstattete. Diese Neuerung wurde eingeführt, um der
Forderung nach höherer Leistung bei nur mit einem
Motor ausgerüsteten Lokomotiven gerecht zu werden.
Der Schlüssel dafür waren Leistungshalbleiter, die den
vom Generator erzeugten Wechselstrom direkt in Gleich-
strom zur Versorgung der Antriebsmotoren umformte.
Die Lokomotive wurde durch den ALCO V-16 Modell
251 Dieselmotor angetrieben. Somit war genug Kraft
vorhanden, um die 120 Tonnen schwere Lokomotive auf
eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit zwischen 110 - 120 km/h
zu bringen. In einem Zeitraum von Juli 1966 bis Februar
wurden 16 dieser Lokomotiven erbaut.

tury 630 furono le prime 2 locomotive nelle quali ALCO
usò un generatore di corrente alternata. Qest’ultimo
permise, grazie alle sue dimmensioni ridotte, il peso
minore ed una manutenzione più facile, l’installazione
dei motori più potenti da 3.000 e più cavalli. La chiave
di questo sistema era nascosta nei direzionatori a sili-
cone, i quali traducevano la corrente alternata in quella
continua, con la quale fu alimentato il motore. Questa
locomotiva aveva 4 assi e fu spinta da 4 elettromotori.
Al suo interno fu installato un motore V-16 a 4 tempi,
del tipo 251, con 3.000 cavalli. La velocità massima di
questa locomotiva che pesava 120 t e fu progettata per
usi vari, fu tra i 110 e i 120 km/h. Fra luglio 1966 e
febbraio 1968 ne furono fabbricati 16 esemplari.

motive Company (ALCO) a utilisé un générateur à cour-
ant alternatif - alternateur. Ce dernier permettait grâce
à ses dimensions réduites, son poids diminué et une
maintenance plus facile l’installation des moteurs plus
puissants, de 3.000 C.V. et plus. La clé de ce système de
transmission de force résidait dans les redresseurs en
sylicone transformant le courant alternatif en courant
continu pour alimenter les moteurs de propulsion. Cette
locomotive avait quatre axes et quatres électromo-
teurs. Son moteur V16, était à quatres temps, modèle
251, diesel. Ceci suffisait pour conduire la locmotive de
120 tonnes jusqu’à la vitesse maxi de 110-120 km/h.
Dans la période entre juin 1966 et février 1968 on a
construit 16 locomotives.

- alternator. Ta je zaradi svojih manjših dimenzij, manjše
teže in lažjega vzdrževanja dovoljeval vgradnjo motorjev
večjih moči, 3.000 KS in več. Ključ tega sistema prenosa
moči je bil v silikonskih usmernikih, ki so pretvarjali
izmenični tok v enosmernega, s katerim so se napajali
pogonski motorji. V tej štiriosni, s štirimi pogonskimi
elektromotorji gnani lokomotivi, je bil vgrajen štiritaktni,
V-16 motor tipa 251 s 3.000 KS. Največja hitrost te 120
t težke, za splošne namene predvidene lokomotive je bila
med 110 in 120 km/h. Skupaj je bilo v obdobju med
julijem 1966 in februarjem 1968 izdelanih 16 takih
lokomotiv.
The 3.000 h.p. units Century 430 and the larger Century 630 were the first locomotives, that American Locomotive Company
(ALCO) offered with a smaller, lighter and maintenance simplified AC generator instead of common DC generator. This
novelty was introduced to meet the demands for more horsepower from single engine locomotives. The key to ALCO’s
AC rectified transmission system were the silicon rectifiers, which convert AC output to direct-current for the DC traction
motors. The locomotive was powered by ALCO’s V-16 Model 251 diesel engine. They was enough power to move this 120
tons heavy locomotive to a maximum speed about 110 - 120 km/h. In a period from July 1966 till February 1968, 16 such
locomotives were produced.
