Microsoft and IBM Network Operating Systems (SMB)
You access the Axis CD-ROM server just like any other workstation
or file server. Below you will find examples on how to access the Axis
CD-ROM server using clients for Windows 95, Windows for
Workgroups, Windows NT, OS/2 and DOS.
The Axis CD-ROM server offers two different SMB protocols:
• SMB over NetBIOS/NetBEUI.
• SMB over NetBIOS/TCP/IP.
The CD-ROM server will automatically handle both protocols.
Notes: ❏ The examples below assume that you have not changed the SMB
server name in the config.ini file on the CD-ROM server. The
default server name in the SMB environment is
AXIS<nnnnnn>,
where
<nnnnnn> are the six last digits of the CD-ROM server
serial number. If you have changed the server name, please use the
new name where the examples refer to the default name.
❏ In the Microsoft Network environment network resources are
accessed by specifying a server and a resource on that server using
the
\\server\resource syntax (UNC). The resource is not, as
could be imagined, a file path. It is therefore impossible to replace
the resource name with the path to a file or folder on your CD-
ROM. Beside the CD-ROM folders in the cd folder, the Axis
CD-ROM server makes the following resources available: root, cd,
config and volumes.
